Narrative

Virtual Reality (VR) is something you thought you would find in a sci-fi movie or in the future. In reality, VR is an affordable home entertainment option and boasts a broad spectrum of features. Ever since 2012, the modern VR headset has been in use with companies like HTC, Oculus, PlayStation. These VR kits have not been much concern and more an entertainment. The only risks I was originally aware of was health risks. These health risks include things like nausea, dizziness, eye soreness, and tripping/falling.

With VR becoming more popular there are a multitude of security risks that can come with the VR headsets. This platform hasn’t been much of a target for threats in the past but recently with the introduction to VR marketplaces on some VR headsets, hackers could potentially hack to get credit card information or personal information. Another concern is malware attacks to make the device almost inoperable. Since you can also use a VR headset to communicate with others, there could be interception of your chat and used to collect information on your where abouts, your interests, and even details of your personal life.

What can be done about this you may ask? Up to this point it has not been much of a worry since there can be little to gain from the few VR devices people use online. For now, there are steps that the organizations are taking to improve security measures for VR. We are still unsure if VR will be a big part of our future. Hopefully in the future VR can be safe for everyone to use with out worry of hackers. We shall see how VR works in the future and what is to come.
